 Ultra Violet:

PANTONE's Color of the Year 2018

Vibrant   |  Rich  | Luxurious

What better way to start the New Year than with a glimpse at all you can discover –in ultra violet and every other color of the rainbow – here at DesignSourceCT.

What is it about the purple family of colors?  There is a mystical quality that emanates from this complex hue.  According to the PANTONE Color Institute, there is something about the “combination of the excitement of red and the tranquility of blue” that makes it “in essence the marriage of two diametrically opposed emotions.” Earlier in the year, PANTONE created a special tribute color, Love Symbol #2, to Prince whose use of purple in songs, outfits and even his custom-made Yamaha piano left behind an indelible mark on music, art, fashion and culture. According to Kravet, one of the extensive collections on display at DesignSourceCT, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet is a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade” that “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the non-conformity spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.” The Kravet Curated collection includes several fine pieces that would add a touch of this lively color to your roomscape. Whether you want to add a punch of this dynamic color to an existing space or you are looking to build a whole room design around it, there are lots of options to work with.

Our Designer-On-Call, Nancy Perkins, takes you on a tour of our showroom and all the beautiful designer inspirations in this color.  Check out our collection of ultra violet “finds” in fabrics, trimmings, wall coverings, rugs and even bedding.

How to Design an Office That Feels Like Home

Telecommuting is an opportunity that more companies are offering to their employees, and this can be a win-win situation for all parties involved. New home design trends often feature a home office that is tucked away from distractions, and we wanted to share some inspirational ways to create a home office that is high in function yet still "homey":

home office design trends
  • While in a more corporate setting, file cabinets and storage areas tend to be a bland white, a home office allows people the opportunity to incorporate their favorite colors. Incorporating personality into the room can help to create a more pleasant working environment, and the employee may even feel more energized as well.
  • Consider adding an accessory or two that are not ordinarily part of an office, such as a chandelier or a cozy window seat.
  • Make the most of the natural light in the space. Not only can this help to make the space feel larger and less crammed, but the additional light can help to keep the employee focused on the task at hand.
